Roma

Before Melissa and Dave left (about two weeks ago) Andrea and I took them to Roma. Melissa had been once before, years ago, but it was Dave's first time. We did a full day, early train (about an hour), and as many monuments as we could possibly fit in.

Starting in Piazza di Repubblica, we made our way to the Spanish steps. Then off to the Trevi fountain, where we all made a wish and threw in a coin. Even though chestnuts are not in season here, the chestnut guy was out roasting them. The Pantheon was our next stop, where we also grabbed a slice of pizza. From there we made our way across the river to St. Peter's Basilica. They now require everyone to go through metal detectors in order to enter the basilica. The line was insanely long, so we skipped going inside and just took in the sites of the square. From St. Peter's we had to go back across the river to get to the forum and Coliseum. This proved to be a little harder than we planned, and I ended up taking everyone through a tunnel, which did not really seem like it was for pedestrians. We made it to Piazza Venezia, and stopped for lunch. then a walk along side the forum and around the Coliseum (the line there was insane as well). We had just enough time to get back to the station and catch our 4:40pm train.

It was a fun day, but very exhausting!
