The Friday before Melissa and Dave's wedding, I took them an Adrea to Saturnia. It's a nice spa like experience, and a good way to relax before your big day. On the way there we got pulled over by the Carabinieri, the equivalent of the state police. They frequently do random checks, especially on weekend nights to find drunk drivers. I was totally freaked out, heart racing, hands shaking. David had prepared me for something like this, so I knew I would be asked for my license and registration. Instead of pulling out my international drivers license, I grabbed my Massachusetts one, and Andrea handed me all the papers in the glove compartment because we had no idea which one was the registration. The man started speaking very fast Italian, so I interrupted him (politely) and asked if he spoke English. He said, just a little, looked at the other cop, handed me back my papers, and said we could go. Sometimes it pays not to know Italian fluently!
The rest of the day went on without any other unplanned stops, and we had a great time in the springs!!!
