Viterbo

The weekend before last, David and I went on a day trip to Viterbo, about 40 minutes away from here. David went to college in Viterbo, so he knows the city well, and was a great tour guide. We went to so many places that day, that I have to break it up into a few blogs.

We left the house in the early afternoon after going to the market for fruit and vegetables. Its was a beautiful day! The weather has been wonderful, in the 80s everyday. The drive is beautiful, down small windy roads through the country, where we passed fields of poppy's and purple flowers I can't identify.

Viterbo is much bigger than Orvieto, but very easily walkable. It is located in the Lazio region, and like Orvieto, at one time had been a place of refuge for the Pope, when there was civil war in Rome. It is a walled city, known as the city of fountains, because almost every piazza, and street has a fountain. It is home to a major University, and is not a touristy city, there is a young vibe, lots of bars and a good music scene. It is definitely worth the trip!
