Bartender gig, May 11 2011

David's band Bartender played a gig the evening that Giro d'Italia came through Orvieto. The gig was outside in a small Piazza called "Fontana Secca". They were hired by the restaurant Terzo Tempo, which had really good burgers for being in Italy. The gig went really well, lots of people stopped to hang out and listen. They even had a gentleman join in for the last song, who played the castanets.

I included a video of Bartender's newest original song "Reckless".

A Friends Wedding

A few weeks ago we went to David's friends wedding, Davide and Michela. The ceremony was at the Cappuccini monastery right outside of town, and the reception was at Il Caio (where we had our wedding reception). It was a perfect day, warm with just a few clouds, and the scenery was amazing. It was a beautiful, traditional Italian wedding, with lots of guests and tons of food. After eating way too much, the weeks that Andrea, Melissa and Dave were visiting, I could barely eat, let alone take pictures of the food. We sat at a fun table with some of David's friends. It was nice to be visiting Il Ciao again, it brought back memories of our special day there, and this visit I had time to play with the farm animals.

Trattoria del Moro

You have to excuse me for not always blogging in chronological order, but sometimes I have so many things to share, that I forget something.

The first night that Melissa and Dave arrived in Orvieto (almost a month ago now), we all went out for dinner at Trattoria del Moro. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Orvieto! We took Amanda and Rob there for lunch after our wedding in Orvieto last October, and we tried to take my family for a dinner, but the restaurant was always full every time we called to make a reservation.

I remembered to take pictures of almost everything before we started eating this time. It was quite a feast! We had 3 types of antipasto for everyone to share, each of us got a primo piatti, then 1 secondo piatti and a few salads to share. There was plenty of amazing wine, and Fabio of course got a dessert.

Giro d'Italia

Last Wednesday the Giro d'Italia cyclists stopped in Orvieto for the night. Giro d'Italia is Italy's version of the Tour de France. Its a 21 day, 3,525 kilometer (2,190 miles and 586.8 yards) bike race, covering most of the country. The main sponsor of Giro d'Italia is the sports news paper here, which is pink, so all the promo collateral is pink. All the stores in town dressed up there window displays with pink news papers.

The course changes every year, so I was lucky to be here to see it. The last 2.5 kilometers to get to Orvieto, is up a winding hill. So by the end of a 180 kilometer day, I was amazed to see the cyclists make it to the top. David and I perched ourselves on a road near our house, that has a great view of the cyclists coming into town.
